Plant Trees With Us!

The 2011 Arbor Day Tree Planting, "Let's Put Trees Back on Chowning"
One of the best ways to celebrate Arbor Week is by planting trees! The City will host three community tree plantings this week around town, and we invite you to join us in beautifying Edmond and creating a new start for trees that will provide a multitude of benefits in the years to come. See below for dates and locations for each planting. We have some shovels, but you are more than welcome to bring your own tools and we recommend bringing a pair of work gloves too. Volunteers can also pick up a tree seedling to take home.

Tuesday, March 26th at 4 PM we will plant trees at Anderson Park, located at 2405 S Rankin. This park includes a playground, picnic area and baseball field, and is just north of Orvis Risner Elementary.

On Thursday, March 28th beginning at 4:30 PM we will be planting trees at Westborough Park, which is in the Westborough Addition off of Kelly and Danforth. There is no physical address for the park, but it sits at the intersection of St. Christopher Dr and Ryan Way. This park features a portion of the public trail system, an open play area and a playground, and it is located just west of John Ross Elementary inside the neighborhood.

As a grand finale for Arbor Week, we will plant trees at the entrance to the Service Blake Soccer Complex at 1502 W Danforth on Saturday morning, March 30th, at 10 AM. The soccer fields currently have no landscaping outside the front fence, and the new trees will provide a nice welcome for patrons of the sports complex and people driving by.

This is one of the most exciting times of year for urban forestry and we are geared up and ready to go and plant some trees. We hope you will join us for the fun!
