Upcoming Events

October is a busy month full of Urban Forestry programs and activities! We hope you will join us for one of our volunteer events, or that you’ll stop by to pick up a free tree at one of our distributions. Here are this fall’s opportunities:

Edmond Open House

– October 8th from 4-7, Cross Timbers Municipal Complex (southeast corner of I35 and Covell)
Urban Forestry will once again host a booth at the City's Open House Event with free tree seedlings, information about tree planting and care, and a kid's craft! Seedling species include: trident maple, pecan, Mexican redbud, common persimmon, golden raintree, cherrybark oak, and sweetbay magnolia. We will be making leaf presses at the craft table that can be used to preserve beautiful, fall color as leaves fall from trees this autumn. Be sure to stop by and see us! If you would like to volunteer, sign up here.

Fall Tree Distribution

– October 31st from 8 AM – noon, Edmond Farmer’s Market (26 W 1st St)
We are fortunate to be receiving some trees through the Tree Bank Foundation again this year! 3 gal trees will be available, 1 per household for Edmond residents on a first come, first served basis. Tree recipients must reside within Edmond City Limits (check out this resource to find out if you live in Edmond) and should show a City of Edmond utility bill in order to pick up a tree. Check out the event page for details, such as available species.

Fire Training Center Planting

- November 5th from 3:45 - 5:30 PM, 5300 E Covell
Urban Forestry will be teaming up with the Edmond Fire Department this fall to plant trees at their training facility, located on the corner of E Covell and Air Depot. Volunteers will plant trees and shrubs ranging from seedlings to 5 gal containers, adding to the landscape buffer surrounding the site. The event begins at 3:45 PM and volunteers should meet east of the Fire Administration building, just east of I 35 on the south side of Covell.

Sunset Elementary School Tree Planting

- November 13th, starting time TBA, 400 W 8th St
Through an Oklahoma City Community Foundation grant, Urban Forestry and Edmond Public Schools are working together this fall to plant trees on the grounds of Sunset Elementary School! The planting event will take place during the day on Friday, November 13th, mostly with the help of students from the school. Community volunteers are welcomed, and those interested should contact Leigh Martin at 359-4759 for more information about the event schedule.
