Downtown Edmond Brings Holiday Cheer

The annual Mayor’s Tree Lighting and Edmond Electric Parade of Lights is set for Saturday, December 8 in Downtown Edmond.

Beginning at 6:00 p.m., residents and visitors can join together at Shannon Miller Park for the 2012 Mayor’s Essay Contest Winner presentation. “The lighted park is a true holiday tradition for Edmond. It was only fitting to announce the winner of the contest in such a festive holiday atmosphere,” said Ashleigh Clark, Edmond’s Public Information Officer.

This year’s essay theme is” If you were Cindy Lou Who, what would you do to convince the Grinch not to steal Christmas and help his heart grow three sizes too big?” The contest is open to all 1st through 5th grade, Edmond students. Once the presentation has been made, the contest winners will be able to ride in the Edmond Electric Parade of Lights. If you would still like to enter the contest, please bring your essay by the Mayor’s office located at 24 E. 1st St. no later than November 27.

At 6:45 p.m., the parade will step off from the UCO campus and stroll through the beautifully lit Downtown Edmond. “To continue with the theme of the parade, each entry is required to have lights adorning their float. We’ve had many exciting entries over the past couple of years and we look forward to seeing what’s in store for this year’s holiday tradition in Edmond,” said Michelle Trimberger, Edmond Electric Program Coordinator.

After the parade, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to walk over to the Annual Edmond Outdoor Ice Rink presented by Edmond Electric. The rink will stay open until 10:00 p.m. that evening. For more information about the rink, visit expressice.com.

It all begins Saturday, December 8 at 6 p.m. and we hope all of you will join us for these holiday traditions in Downtown Edmond that helps make our community a great place to grow!

If your group or organization would like to participate in this fun holiday event, applications can be found at edmondelectric.com or you can call Michelle Trimberger at 216-7671. Application deadline is November 30, 2012.

Parade route:
