McDonald Transit and Associates
In 2009, the City of Edmond, through a competitive process, chose McDonald Transit and Associates to operate Citylink. They are the oldest independently owned firm in the United States offering management, planning, and operation services for bus, rail, and paratransit systems. Their reputation for exceptional customer service and safety, as well as expertise in developing effective and efficient services, are just a few of the reasons McDonald Transit was chosen to operate Citylink.
Citylink Buses
The new Citylink buses are rolling! All eight are equipped with bike racks and wheelchair tie-downs. The two Expresslink buses seat 30 passengers and are fueled with Clean Diesel. The six local route buses can carry 19 passengers and are currently fueled with gasoline with plans to be converted to Compressed Natural Gas. All were purchased with American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA aka stimulus) funds for $600,000.
Introducing CAP, Citywide Access Paratransit
CAP is a FREE curb-to-curb service that will enable disabled residents to be picked up by Citylink and comfortably driven to appointments within the city-limits of Edmond in a wheelchair accessible bus. CAP is intended to provide services in accordance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). The CAP hours of service are 8AM to 5PM Monday through Friday. Customers should call at least 48 hours prior to pick up to ensure availability. To request an application for CAP, call Citylink at 509-6370.
Benefits of Public Transportation
Safety
Public transportation is one of the safest modes of travel in the United States. In fact, riding a transit bus is 91 times safer than car travel!
Saves Money
According to the American Automobile Association, the estimated cost of driving a single-occupant vehicle is between $4,826 and $9,685, depending on the size of the car and mileage. The annual average cost for public transportation for one adult ranges from $200 to $2,000 depending on mileage, time of day, type of vehicle or service.
Improves Air Quality
Public transportation helps promote cleaner air by reducing automobile use, which can exacerbate smog and public health problems. For each mile traveled, fewer pollutants are emitted by transit vehicles than by a single-passenger automobile.
Reduces Energy Consumption
Public transportation can significantly reduce dependency on gasoline, reducing auto fuel consumption by 1.5 billion gallons annually. For example, a person who commutes 30 miles each way daily could save an estimated 944 gallons of gasoline every year by switching from using a car to using public transportation.
