Many Edmond residents, like half of all Americans, are concerned about traffic where they live. The City of Edmond's Traffic Planners are addressing these concerns through roadway improvement projects and new traffic management technologies. Projects Currently Under Construction
09-10 School Zone Safety Improvements
This project will include school zone safety devices at a location not yet determined. This project will be funded with 100% City funds estimated to be $55,000.00. The anticipated start date is summer of 2010.
2011 Project Schedule
Kelly, north of Danforth to south of Covell
This project will widen Kelly to a four land divided roadway with left turn lanes at all side streets. The project includes street lighting and landscaping. The estimated construstion cost is $4,927,593.14. The funding split will be 80% Federal funds and 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
15th and Broadway
This project will evaluate the existing lane capacity to determine where additional lanes are needed. Signal light modifications will accommodate any changes in the lane configurations. This project is part of the 2000 Sales Tax Improvements. The estimated construction cost is $498,269.03. The funding split is 72% Federal funds and 28% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Pavement Markings
This project will include pavement markings at various locations throughout the city including 13 school zones. The estimated construction cost is $350,000.00. The funding is 100% Federal Funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.

2012 Project Schedule
Covell, Thomas to Marilyn Williams
This project will widen Covell to provide for a four lane divided roadway. There will be left turn lanes at all side streets. Covell will also include street lighting, bike paths, and landscaping. The estimated construction cost is $11,341,263.55. The funding split will be 100% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
33rd and Broadway
This project will evaluate the existing land capactiy to determine where additional lanes are needed. Signal light modifications will accommodate any changes in the lane configurations. This project is part of the 2000 Sales Tax Improvements. The estimated construction cost is $6,204,220.14. The funding split is 51% Federal funds and 49% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
2013 Project Schedule
Sooner Road Bridge Replacement, 0.6 Miles North of Covell Road
This project will replace the existing bridge with a four lane bridge with sidewalks on both sides of the bridge and a trail underpass on both ends alongside Coffee Creek to accommodate the trails system. This project is a joint project with Oklahoma County District 3. The estimated construction cost is $2,158,434.38. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time
2nd and Bryant
This project consist of adding dual left turn lane for all four directions as well as a single right turn lane for all four directions. New signal lights will include the latest video detection technology. The is project is part of the 2000 Sales Tax Improvements. The estimated construction cost is $1,811,731.86. The funding split and anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
2014 Project Schedule
Kelly, north of Covell to south of Coffee Creek
This project will widen Kelly to a four lane divided roadway with left turn lanes at all side streets. The project includes street lighting and landscaping. The project will also include a new bridge structure south of Coffee Creek. The estimated construction cost is $6,104,852.90. The funding split will be 80% Federal funds and 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
33rd Street, Coltrane to I-35
This project consist of widening 33rd Street to provide for a four lane divided roadway with left turn lanes at the side streets. The center median will be landscaped. The project will also include sidewalks. This project is part of the 2000 Sales Tax Improvements. The estimated construction cost is $3,911,046.26. The funding split will be 80% Federal funds and 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Danforth and Kelly
This project will widen the intersection to a four lane divided road with dual left turn lanes and separate right turn lanes. The project extents will be approximately 1400 feet east, west and south and 500 feet to the north. The estimated cost is $4,613,253.79. The funding wil be 80% Federal funds and 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Future Construction Projects
Kelly, Coffee Creek to Waterloo
This is an Oklahoma County sponsored project that will widen Kelly to a four lane divided roadway with left turn lanes at all side streets. A signal light will be constructed at the intersections of Coffee Creek, Mesa Trail (Cross Timbers Elementary School), and Sorghum Mill Road. The project will also include street lighting and landscaping. The estimated construction cost is $7,000,000.00. The funding will be 80% Federal funds and 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Covell, Marilyn Williams to Western
This project will widen Covell to provide for a four lane divided roadway. There will be left turn lanes at all side streets. Covell will also include street lighting, bike paths, and landscaping. The estimated construction cost is $12,250,000.00. The funding split is unknown at this time. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Bryant Avenue Bridge Replacement, 0.1 miles North of 15th Street
This project will replace the existing bridge with a four lane bridge with sidewalks on both sides of the bridge. This will be funded with 1996 Sales Tax receipts.
33rd and Technology Drive
This project will add left and right turn lanes on 33rd Street as well as a new signal light. The estimated construction cost is 1,250,000.00. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
