Volunteer Event Schedule
Seedling PlantingSince launching the new volunteer schedule this past summer, Urban Forestry has hosted 8 events with participation by 95 volunteers from 13 different community groups. We are excited about the response to the improved volunteer program and can’t wait to continue working with Edmond residents to promote, conserve and enhance our local urban forest!

The events of 2017 kicked off with a tree seedling planting at Kickingbird Golf Club on January 19th. Volunteers planted and mulched 94 native tree seedlings in an out of play area of the golf course. Adding on to an existing grove of mature Cross Timbers species, the new grove of seedlings, once established, will help to conserve the local Cross Timbers ecosystem, add to tree canopy coverage throughout the City, and boast the many other environmental, health and social benefits that come along with the planting of trees. In addition, seedling planting projects reduce the amount of area that requires mowing, which helps to conserve resources.

This month, volunteers returned to the Arboretum to continue invasive species removal, and to prepare for a pollinator support planting event that will take place later in the spring. The end of March brings Arbor Week events, and we have additional tree planting and mulching opportunities lined up for this spring and early summer. Check out the full schedule to find an event from now through June that you might like to participate in!

Volunteers are eligible to win door prizes at each event, and with each event attended they will accumulate points for their community group toward the Volunteer Group of the Year Award. The very first winning group of this new program will be announced at the Arbor Week Tree Planting on March 25th! Several groups are currently in the running, and it’s not too late to get your community group involved. Starting in April, all groups will begin with a blank slate to start earning points toward next year’s award.

We hope to see you at a future event! Keep an eye on the schedule, as that page will be updated periodically with more current information. As an event approaches, we will also link to an online signup sheet so that volunteers may let us know they are coming.
