When can I apply?
The Edmond Police Department takes applications only during specific hiring periods. You may get your name on a call list by sending an email or by calling (405) 359-4437. You will be contacted when we conduct the next hiring process.
What does it take to be an Edmond Police Officer?
The Edmond Police Department looks for individuals with high levels of integrity, honesty, compassion and moral character. A desire to serve, a strong sense of work ethic and ability to communicate well with others are very important.
What are the minimum requirements?
An applicant must be at least 21 years old and cannot have reached their 46th birthday. Along with 60 or more hours of college credit hours with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, OR: A minimum of 30 hours of college credit with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and 2 years full time paid law enforcement experience, OR: A minimum of 30 hours of college credit with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and 4 years active military duty with a discharge under honorable conditions. Must submit a college transcript.
If I am a certified police officer in another state, can I apply?
Yes. Every accepted officer is required to attend the Edmond Police Academy.
Is the there an Edmond Police Academy?
Yes there is. It is a 21-week academy.
Must I complete an application in order to test?
Yes. When we are hiring, this application is available at the City of Edmond Human Resources office.
What does the written exam consist of and how can I prepare?
The written exam covers four areas: mathematics, grammar, reading comprehension and report writing. You do not need to have any prior knowledge of police work or police experience to take the test. Honing your skills in basic math, spelling, grammar and reading comprehension in any way you prefer should be sufficient to prepare you for the exam. You need to score a minimum of 70% in all four areas of the exam. The written exam takes approximately 3 hours.
What are the physical requirements?
Applicants must pass a timed physical agility course consisting of running and negotiating several obstacles which may be encountered on the job.
What can I do to prepare for the physical agility course?
Be in good physical condition and of healthy weight. Engage in regular exercise. Increase your cardiovascular health by doing cardio workouts.
Does the Edmond Police Department hire Reserve Officers?
The Edmond Police Department does not have a reserve officer program. All officers serving are paid commissioned officers.
