Window Tinting
- Does Edmond have an ordinance regarding tinted windshields?
- I want to have my windows tinted. What do I need to know to make sure the tint complies with the city and state laws?
- What if I have a doctor's note indicating that I need more tinting on my vehicle's window?
Does Edmond have an ordinance regarding tinted windshields?
There is a municipal ordinance and a state law regarding restrictions to the tinting of windows. They are Municipal Ordinance 10.16.120 Restriction on Tinted Windshields and Windows, and State Law §12-422 Restriction on Tinted Windshields and Windows.
I want to have my windows tinted. What do I need to know to make sure the tint complies with the city and state laws?
- Front Windshield: No tint below the AS1 Line or 5" below the top of the windshield.
- Front Windows: Driver and Front Passenger Windows - must allow 25% light transmission.
- Rear Windows: Rear Passenger Windows (all glass behind the driver) - must allow 10% light transmission.
Please Note: The lower the percentage on the tint the darker the window tint. For example, if the front window tint tested 20%, then the tint is too dark because it only allows 20% of the sunlight in when the ordinance specifies it should be 25%.
What if I have a doctor's note indicating that I need more tinting on my vehicle's window?
Because Window Tinting is restricted by law, we cannot accept any doctor's note in lieu of writing a ticket. You will need to contact the Department of Public Safety, Commissioner's Officer.
