The purpose of the commission is to provide recommendations for the development of a Veterans Memorial in the City of Edmond, and to make additional recommendations regarding activities and other projects honoring veterans.
On December 10, 2019, the Edmond City Council authorized the creation of the Veterans Memorial Advisory Committee (VMAC) for the purpose of making recommendations for the development of a veterans memorial in the City of Edmond and to make recommendations regarding activities and other projects honoring veterans. The VMAC follows up on the work of the Veterans Memorial Advisory Task Force, which created the initial concept for the memorial.
The City Council agreed on the renovation of a portion ofBickham-RudkinPark. The park consists of 49 acres and contains a playground, fishing pond, pavilion, and dog park.
As shown in the renderings below, the Memorial will be located at the northern end of Bickham-RudkinPark and will include a flag plaza, memorial sculpture, and other landscaping features such as walking trails and an events plaza.
Central to the memorial’s concept will be plaques and tributes recognizing Edmond residents who have served our nation. As part of its ongoing work, the VMAC will develop plans, collect veterans’ stories, and solicit inputs from Edmond residents on appropriate displays and recognition.
